Where the real differences are

1. Who responded? Google Forms does not tell you

Google Forms collects responses anonymously by default. You can require sign-in, but that only gives you an email address in a spreadsheet. There is no way to see that user's plan, role, tenure, or any other attribute alongside their response.

Mapster links every response to a real user. When someone submits a survey, you see their response alongside their plan tier, signup date, role, and any custom attributes you pass. You do not just get data - you get context.

2. Segmentation is the whole point

Google Forms gives you a single summary view of all responses. Your NPS score is one number. Your satisfaction rating is one average. You cannot filter results by user segment without exporting to a spreadsheet and doing it manually.

Mapster segments every result automatically. See your NPS broken down by plan tier and discover that your Pro users score 65 while your Free users score 12. See CSAT by region and find that APAC customers are unhappy with response times. These insights are invisible in Google Forms.

3. NPS, CSAT, and PMF are built in

Google Forms has no concept of NPS, CSAT, CES, or Product-Market Fit surveys. You can create a 0-10 scale question, but Google Forms will not calculate your NPS score, group responses into Promoters/Passives/Detractors, or track your score over time.

Mapster has dedicated templates for each survey type. NPS scores are calculated automatically. PMF surveys use the Sean Ellis framework with the 40% benchmark built in. CSAT tracks satisfaction across touchpoints. You get the methodology, not just the form.

4. In-app surveys vs. links and iframes

Google Forms can be shared via link or embedded as an iframe. There is no way to trigger a survey contextually inside your product - for example, after a user completes onboarding or uses a specific feature.

Mapster includes a lightweight JavaScript widget that you embed once. Trigger surveys on page load, after specific actions, or on exit intent. Surveys appear natively inside your product, and response rates are 3-5x higher than email or link surveys.

5. Analytics dashboard vs. Google Sheets

Google Forms sends responses to Google Sheets. You get a spreadsheet and some basic pie charts. For anything beyond that - trend analysis, segment comparison, score tracking over time - you need to build it yourself.

Mapster gives you a real-time analytics dashboard with segmented views, score trends, individual response drill-downs, and geographic analytics. No spreadsheet wrangling required.

6. Branding that matches your product

Google Forms lets you change the header image and accent color. Every form still looks like a Google Form. Your customers know they have left your product.

Mapster surveys can match your brand completely - your logo, your colors, your style. In-app widget surveys look like a native part of your product. Link surveys carry your branding end to end.

Real scenarios, real differences

You want to run an NPS survey after onboarding

With Google Forms

Create a form with a 0-10 scale, share the link via email, export responses to Sheets, manually calculate NPS, and hope you can match emails to your user database.

With Mapster

Pick the NPS template, embed the widget, trigger it after onboarding. NPS is calculated automatically and segmented by plan tier. You see that Pro users score 72 while Free users score 18.

Your churn rate increased and you need to understand why

With Google Forms

Create a cancellation form, share it as a link. Responses come in as anonymous rows. You know people are unhappy but not which plan they were on or how long they had been a customer.

With Mapster

Use the exit survey template, triggered in your cancellation flow. See that 60% of churned users on the Starter plan cite "missing integrations" while Enterprise users cite "slow support." Fix the right problem for each segment.

You want to measure product-market fit before your next fundraise

With Google Forms

Google "Sean Ellis survey questions," manually recreate them in a form, share the link, export to Sheets, and calculate the percentage yourself.

With Mapster

Use the PMF template with the Sean Ellis framework built in. Get your PMF score instantly. Segment by user type to show investors which segments have strong fit.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Forms good for customer feedback surveys?

Google Forms works for basic surveys but lacks user segmentation, NPS/CSAT scoring, in-app widgets, and analytics. You get a spreadsheet of anonymous responses with no way to see which users or customer segments said what.

What can Mapster do that Google Forms cannot?

Mapster links every survey response to a real user, segments results by plan, role, or any attribute, includes built-in NPS/CSAT/PMF scoring, offers an embeddable in-app widget, and provides a real-time analytics dashboard. Google Forms gives you a spreadsheet.

Is Mapster free like Google Forms?

Yes, Mapster has a free plan with no credit card required. The Pro plan is $19/month for advanced features like higher response limits. Google Forms is free but lacks feedback-specific features like segmentation, NPS scoring, and in-app surveys.

Can I switch from Google Forms to Mapster?

Yes. Sign up for a free Mapster account, choose a template or build from scratch, and share your new survey link. You can be up and running in under 5 minutes. Previous Google Forms responses can be exported as CSV for reference.

When should I use Google Forms instead of Mapster?

Google Forms is better for internal team forms, event RSVPs, simple polls, or any use case where you do not need to know who responded or segment results. If you need customer feedback with user-level insights, Mapster is the better choice.

Does Mapster have an in-app survey widget?

Yes. Mapster includes an embeddable JavaScript widget that triggers surveys inside your product. Google Forms has no in-app widget - you can only share a link or embed an iframe.
